Charlotte's Web

Wordle: Charlotte's Web

We had a terrific time reading Charlotte's Web by E.B. White as our first read aloud for homeschool.  It took us a while to complete the book because we started by reading just one chapter a day.  Some of our favorite things we learned from this book were:

Roman Numerals - every chapter starts with a Roman Numeral and the children predicted what they would look like.  Now that we've completed our story, we'll study Roman Numerals for a math lesson.

Vocabulary - CW is full of new words for the children and because the setting is in the past, we had many opportunities to learn about new things and life on a farm.

Movie Day - of course we enjoyed watching the movie.

Facts about Pigs - we used a Unit Study from Confessions of a Homeschooler for Charlotte's Web and we completed some of the activities.  We learned that pigs are the 4th smartest animal on Earth and that they are omnivores.

We also love our wordle we created!  I was very impressed with the vocabulary that they recalled from the story and the words that Joelle can read from the wordle.  This will be a fun way to remember our 1st read aloud!
